Mervue return home to face Harps

Craving a mid table berth in the first division, Mervue United will be hoping to record another home success when Finn Harps visit Fahy’s Field tomorrow night.

Again the ludicrous scenario of two Galway teams playing in the League of Ireland on the same night occurs, but that will not bother the Donegal folk living Corribside as they will be keen to see an improvement from a Harps outfit that has surprisingly struggled in the first couple of months of the campaign.

Derry City legend Peter Hutton has taken charge, though, and Harps are always durable opponents so Mervue know that a tough test awaits. Mervue’s last home encounter featured a smashing Jason Molloy display which ensured Johnny Glynn’s charges claimed an emphatic win over promotion chasing Monaghan United.

Last Friday in a tight and tense game at the RSC Conor Sinnott netted a penalty to give Waterford United a morale-boosting win over a Mervue team that had battled defiantly. Ger Hanley, Martin Conneely, Mark Ludden, Rory Gaffney, and Molloy continue to impress for a youthful Mervue, who will be ready for the start of a Harps revival.

Salthill Devon, now under the stewardship of Paul ‘Ski’ McGee, have lost three matches in a row, but there were some positive signs despite the reversal against Shelbourne on Saturday.

Ferrycarrig Park in Wexford is where Devon travel to tomorrow and McGee will trust his young side can replicate the drive and desire that frustrated Shels for long stretches.

Colm Horgan, Cian Fadden, James Whelan, and Ciprian Straut all contributed to a gritty Salthill performance, but it is a result that McGee’s team needs. They will make the long trek to the south east optimistic of better days ahead.
