Wagner’s Die Walküre at The Eye

IN TIMES of battle, the Valkyries, rode from the spirit world, choose those who would die in battle, and carry them off as heroes to the afterlife in Valhalla.

Valkyries are among the best known figures in Norse mythology and remain an inspiration to artists and musicians. One of the most famous of all musical interpretations of them is Richard Wagner’s opera Die Walküre.

Wagner’s Die Walküre will be performed at the New York Metropolitan Theatre this Saturday at 5pm and be simultaneously broadcast live via satellite to The Eye Cinema in Wellpark.

Produced by Robert Lepage and conducted by James Levine, Die Walküre stars Bryn Terfel (Wotan ), Deborah Voigt (Brünnhilde ), Jonas Kaufmann and Eva-Maria Westbroek (Siegmund and Sieglinde ), and Stephanie Blythe (Fricka ).
