Communist era inspires video exhibition

EVERYTHING MUST Finally Fall, an exhibition featuring video works by Declan Clarke opens at The Niland Gallery, Lower Merchants Road, tonight at 6pm.

Clarke’s video pieces explore the fleeting symbols and derelict statues of power, particularly the iconography of the Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc.

In Red Moon New York passers-by are asked if they know who Yuri Gagarin is; In Everything Must Finally Fall a plane pulling the words ‘I Have Doubts’ is flown over a city; in Nothing Human is Alien to Me Clarke looks at how some areas of the Eastern Europe have sought to erasing their communist past.

The Niland Gallery, an Engage Art Studios project, is open Fridays and Saturdays from 12 noon to 5pm or by appointment. See www.engageartstudios.com
