The Chinese community in Galway will be launching two new organisations next week to help with integration and also to create greater awareness of Chinese culture in Ireland.
The Irish Chinese Society Galway and the Galway Chinese School will be formally launched on Thursday May 12 at the Irish International Hotel and Catering School, 16 Eyre Square, at 7pm.
The launch will be addressed by Li Chengyuan, the First Secretary of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Ireland and Fine Gael Galway East TD and Minister of State at Department of Education, Ciaran Cannon.
The Irish Chinese Society Galway is a non-political, non-religious, non-profit organisation, open to Chinese people, as well as Irish and other ethnic communities.
It aims to protect the rights of Chinese people in Galway, to enrich cultural life of the overseas Chinese, and to preserve Chinese culture and traditions among the Chinese in Galway, especially among the younger generation.
The group will also seek to help the Chinese community integrate into Irish society and help the Irish people know more about China and Chinese culture.
The Galway Chinese School is open to anyone with an interest in the Chinese language and culture, and has been offering Chinese language, art, and cultural classes since April.
