According to new research, Irish people are currently in the doldrums and badly in need of an uplift. The results of a Dulux ‘Mood of the Nation’ Ipsos MRBI Poll released on April 19 showed 72 per cent of people believe the mood of the nation to be low or very low, with a further 80 per cent believing Irish communities are badly in need of an uplift.
The research was revealed by clinical psychologist and broadcaster, David Coleman, who launched the ‘Dulux Let’s Colour Project’, an initiative which will see up to 200 community projects transformed with colour. Pearse Street in Dublin community project, St Mary’s creche and pre school, saw its façade dramatically transformed into an eye-opening colour jigsaw puzzle to mark the launch. A global initiative, the Dulux ‘Let’s Colour Project’ has transformed communities with colour across the globe including Rio de Janeiro, Paris and Jodphur.
The ‘Let’s Colour Project’ will be open to all communities in Galway giving them the opportunity to rejuvenate dull, grey, and neglected public community spaces, and bringing them back to life. Dulux is calling on people to get active and involved in community by putting hand to paintbrush to improve their area and they will also provide all the paint. Whether you are a community champion, involved in the local council, sports team manager, local handyman, between jobs, or a mum or dad, you are bound to know of a local community project or facility badly in need of an uplift. Whether it be the local community hall, nursing home, sports club, or school playground, log onto www.letscolour.ie, rally the troops and submit a local Galway project. Successful projects meeting the criteria by having a positive impact on local community are to be donated the paint to complete work.
2011 is the European Year of Volunteering and Galway Volunteer Centre commented: “This is a great opportunity for communities all over County Galway to make change, or improvement, to their area.
