Galway SF to ask public to sign petition against Universal Social Charge

Galway Sinn Féin will be calling on the public to sign its petition against the controversial and much resented Universal Social Charge.

The party will be actively campaigning against the tax and is committed to abolishing it. According to Galway Sinn Féin City West spokesperson Tom Hanly: “The introduction of this penal tax benefited those on the highest incomes as everyone with an income over €16,000 pays it at the same rate of seven per cent.

“It has placed more pressure on those already struggling under a burden of bills, mortgages, increased college fees, reductions in social welfare, cuts to college grant and increased prices.”
