Josette Farrell joins Fine Gael

Josette Farrell, who ran for Labour in the Oranmore ward in the 2009 local elections, has left the party to join Fine Gael.

Ms Farrell was approached by Labour to contest the 2009 locals but admits herself that she comes from a Fine Gael background. “Both parties are working well in Government and Fine Gael has a stronger presence in the area,” she said.

When asked if she would consider running in the 2014 local elections, she said she had “not given any thought to that” but would continue to work as a community activist in the Claregalway area “as I have for the last 22, 23 years”.
