Sinn Féin 1916 commemorations

Sinn Fein will hold a series of commemorations in Galway city and county to this Sunday to mark the 94th anniversary of the 1916 Rising.

The main Galway city commemoration will take place at the Liam Mellows statue in Eyre Square at 3pm. The Sinn Féin nominee for the Seanad, Trevor Ó Clochartaigh, will be the main speaker.

Mr Ó Clochartaigh will also give the main oration at Teach an Piarsaigh, Ros Muc, on Easter Monday at 12 noon.

In Ballinasloe the commemoration will take place on Easter Sunday, starting with an assembly at St Michael’s Square at 3pm followed by a march to Creagh Cemetery where the guest speaker will be Sinn Fein councillor Theresa Ruane.

A wreath laying ceremony will take place on Easter Saturday at 6pm at the Joe Howley statute in Oranmore; on Easter Sunday at 1pm a commemoration will take place at the monument in Castlegar.

A wreath laying ceremony will take place in the Ard Bear cemetery, outside Clidfen, at 2.30pm. The commemoration at the Thomas Whelan statue in Clifden will take place at 3pm. At 5pm on Easter Monday a small ceremony will take place at the Tooreena Cemetery in Tullycross.
