Druid gets approval of Kirk Douglas

Kirk Douglas is best known for playing Spartacus in Stanley Kubrick’s 1960 film of the same title, and for playing Vincent Van Gogh in Lust for Life, but these days he is a fan of Druid.

The 94-year-old screen legend recently attended a performance of Martin McDonagh’s The Cripple of Inishmaan by Druid Theatre Company in The Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City, Los Angeles, earlier this month.

So impressed was Mr Douglas with the performance of the play that he sent a letter to the cast to express his appreciation.

“I want to thank all of you for giving my wife and me such a pleasant evening,” he wrote. “We saw the play last week but I had to go out of town, which is the reason for my late letter. I must tell you, I have never seen such a balanced performance. Each character seems to be perfect in their part. It’s a wonderful production and I’m proud it is playing in The Kirk Douglas Theatre.”

The Cripple of Inishmaan will continue at The Kirk Douglas Theatre until May 1.
