NUIG scooped the premier title at the Galway County Mixed League badminton finals which took place on Saturday in the Galway Lawn Tennis Club.
The Galway university defeated GLTC to capture the division two trophy, winning the early matches to finish ahead 4-1.
Twelve teams were involved in the six divisional finals and one of the closest finals was in division three, which produced an epic battle. However last year’s runners up Oranmore staged a great comeback to claim victory over a strong Claregalway side.
In Division four Cortoon proved too strong for an experienced Loughrea side, winning on a scoreline of 5-2. Having won an All-Ireland last year, this Cortoon team will be hoping to repeat the feat in the coming weeks.
In the division five final GLTC beat Loughrea 4-1, while last year’s division six beaten finalists Furbo captured the title with a close victory over a young GLTC side 4-3.
In division seven Letterfrack overcame Ardrahan to capture the title in another tight contest by 4-3.
