GMIT students launch reek campaign for CF

The Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland (CFAI ) has launched a special St Patrick’s Challenge in association with students in GMIT.

The challenge was launched with a special climb up Croagh Patrick this morning and aim is to get as many people as possible to do a sponsored walk, jog, run or even crawl up Croagh Patrick over the next 12 months. To mark the launch, GMIT students from the Outdoor Education course in Castlebar were on hand and to guide some 20 people up the reek today.

The funds raised from the challenge will go directly towards the new Cystic Fibrosis Unit at Mayo General Hospital.

Tomas Thompson of the CFAI explains it is looking to encourage young and old from all-over Ireland who have wanted to climb Croagh Patrick but just needed an excuse.

“Now they have not only a good excuse but also a good cause. Individuals or groups interested in taking part in the challenge can get sponsorship cards and information packs, with tips on routes, equipment and clothing required for the challenge by logging on to www.cfwest.ie
