Anarchism and Marxism are both strong Left wing approaches to society and politics but the ideologies have never been happy bedfellows.
The divisions go back to the ideological divisions and personal clashes between the Russian anarchist Mikhail Bakunin and the Communist theorist Karl Marx during their time together in the International Workingmen’s Association in the 1860s and 1870s.
So how does Marxism view Anarchism in 2011? Anarchism: a Marxist critique is the title of a public meeting which will take place on Thursday March 31 at 8pm in Richardson’s Bar, Eyre Square. The talk will be given by Ian McDonnell of the Socialist Workers Party and a Q&A session will follow.
