Galway’s twitterati will gather in the House Hotel today (Thursday ) for the annual Twestival, part of a global social media fundraising initiative.
The first Twestival was held in 2009, at a time when the Twitter phenomenon was in its infancy in Galway. However with so many local businesses now using Twitter, the Twestival Galway team are confident that they can put Galway on the map and raise substantial funds this time around for their chosen charity, the GSPCA.
Tickets to the Twestival event at the House Hotel can be bought online at a cost of €10 each, and with every donation made you will automatically be entered into a draw for the many raffle prizes on the night. The Twestival team will post prizes to winners living abroad, making it easy for people living abroad to participate.
Twestival is the largest global grassroots social media fundraising initiative to date. Since 2009, volunteers have raised close to $1.2 million for 137 non profit organisations worldwide. Twestival has held its events in local pubs, a bowling alley, a trapeze studio, and even a giant yacht, all thanks to the generosity of local donors and sponsors who come forward to support the volunteer efforts
Twestival events raise funds and awareness for local non profits that organisers identify for having an incredible impact within their own community. Cities around the globe will come together through Twitter this evening by hosting local events to raise their target amount for their named charity.
Twestival Galway will get under way in the House Hotel at 7pm. To help with sponsorship contact @twestgalway, @Ina or @socialbits at the Webworks Galway, based office either via Twitter or by phone on (091 ) 475309.
