THE FORGE at Gort literary festival, featuring readings, book launches, music, and exhibitions, returns to the south County Galway town tomorrow and Saturday.
The festival will be opened at 5pm and with the display of Tom Byrne’s painting of Lady Augusta Gregory. This will be followed by a reading by the poets John W Sexton and Sarah Clancy at 7pm in Sullivan’s Royal Hotel. Then at 8pm The Poetry Chicks and Miceál Kearney will read in the Gort Library.
On Saturday, the poets Noel Monahan and Kevin Kiely will read in the Gort Library at 11am; there will be poetry and music with Matt Mooney, Paul Jeffcut, and Patrick Stack at 1pm in the Gort Family Resource Centre; County Clare’s Three-Leggéd Stool Writers Group will be in O’Grady’s Bar at 3pm.
John Arden and Margaretta D’Arcy will present Tea at Four with George Moore – an informal soirée, in the Gort Family Resource Centre at 4pm. The couple will present scenes from Moore’s autobiography Hail and Farewell.
Then at 7pm poet and journalist Olaf Tyaransen and poet Clare Sawtell will read at Sullivan’s Hotel. There will be music by harpist Brenda Malloy and Clare Sawtell will launch her new collection of poetry.
