Get ready for the Menfolk

FOR ROCK bands the traditional line is two guitars, bass, drums, and vocals. Denmark’s Menfolk however are not your traditional rock band.

The quartet, from Copenhagen, first appeared in the mid 1990s as a noisy three piece called Prune. Since 2000, Menfolk has been a quartet consisting of a drummer, a guitarist and two bass players - so expect the sound to be bottom heavy and deep.

The outcome of this unorthodox line-up is a unique brand of rock. Complexity, noise and nerve lay the foundation of this music, which does not let itself be confined by the limitations of conventional rock. It is an anarchic take on the sound of rock when set free from all constraints.

Menfolk will be among a number of bands playing an ‘Us Vs Them Presents...’ show upstairs at Kelly’s tonight at 8.30pm.

Also playing are Dublin noise rockers Hands Up Who Wants To Die, who just released their new album Buffalo, Buffalo, Buffalo, Buffalo, Buffalo through Richter Collective records; Galway doom metallers Rites, who will release their debut EP in April; and Christians vs Lions, a band who love Nine Inch Nails, Fudge Tunnel, and Therapy? and enjoy delivering huge riffs and even bigger hooks all of their own.

Admission is €6.
