Man to be sentenced next month for county sex assaults

A 47-year-old man is to be sentenced at the Central Criminal Court for a series of sexual assaults at a house in County Galway.

The man, who can not be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty after a jury had been sworn in for his trial, to seven counts of sexual assault against a female at the house on dates between June 2005 and April 2009.

Ms Deirdre Murphy SC, prosecuting, told Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy that the pleas were acceptable to the Director of Public Prosecutions on the basis that they were a representative sample and full facts would be given on the sentence date.

Mr Justice McCarthy thanked the jury of four women and eight men for their service and remanded the man in custody until his sentence date on April 11 next.

He ordered a victim impact report and registered the man as a sex offender.
