Abbeyknockmoy set dancers Cosa Beoga are now the odds-on favourite to win The All Ireland Talent Show. The young set dancers who have wowed audiences in recent weeks are appealing for votes to ensure they can dance to victory in the popular TV programme.
The group, comprising younger members of Abbeyknockmoy Set Dancing Club, stole the show in week five despite receiving criticism from Dublin judge Amanda Brunker. With the semi finals taking place this weekend, bookmaker Paddy Power has installed the group as the 5/2 favourite to win the show.
If Cosa Beoga are crowned this year’s winners it will be the second year judge Daithí Ó Sé has mentored a winning act — he mentored the Mulkerrin Brothers to victory in Series 1 in 2009.
“Amanda might be bored of traditional Irish acts but the public, it seems, are not,” said Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power. “There’s been plenty of support for Cosa Beoga in the betting, proving that old Irish dancing is alive and well.”
Meanwhile Cosa Beoga are appealing for the continued support of viewers in the west to secure their place in the final. Public votes make up half the overall score in each programme, and the group are asking viewers to keep voting for them.
This group have worked long hours to perfect a new and exciting routine for the semi final and are looking forward to taking to the stage again this weekend.
Viewers can also keep up to date with Cosa Beoga on the group’s Facebook page.
Other acts hoping to make it to this year’s final include Donegal crooner Brian Sheerin at 7/2, soprano Daniel Furlong at 5/1, and Daithí Ó Sé’s Sean Nós ar an tSionnan at 6/1.
The All Ireland Talent Show semi-final will be broadcast on Sunday at 6.30pm on RTE One.
