Killimor hope to cap amazing year with camogie crown

This Sunday in Croke Park theAll-Ireland camogie finals take place and Killimor will contest a historic first senior final against Inniscarra (Cork ) at 3pm.

The progressive club annexed the county title last year for the first time ever and they hope to complete an amazing season by winning the All-Ireland final this weekend.

The side defeated hot favourites Oulart the Ballagh (Wexford ), in the All-Ireland semi-final at Duggan Park by a point, 0-9 to 0-8, a few weeks ago and their scoring ace in that tie was Martina Conroy who notched six points.

The other scorers for Killimor in the semi-final were Susan Keane, Brenda Hanney and Emer Herbert.

Team selector Annette Porter is in a positive frame of mind and hopeful the side can go on and complete the job.

“Beating Athenry in the county championship last year and going on to defeat Mullagh in the final provided the panel with a lot of self-belief and we have built on that over the past few months. The players involved are a fantastic bunch and they have worked really hard to get to this level and hopefully they will get their rewards on Sunday.

“If we play as well as we did in the semi-final, we have a great chance, but we know that Inniscarra is a very fine side too and we will have to be at our best to collect. There is an awful lot of work going on at all levels in the club and a win on Sunday would be a great boost to everyone involved - to all levels in the club.”

Club secretary Marie Porter said the village was getting behind its team, with black and amber bunting on display.

“Croke Park will be full of hurling and camogie people from Killimor and all the local clubs on Sunday and there is a fantastic atmosphere in the whole community. Hopefully team manager Tommy Callaghy and the girls can produce a winning display and we will have the All-Ireland trophy in Killimor on Sunday night.”
