THE FOURTH annual Coole Music Orchestra Festival 2011 takes place at the Lady Gregory Hotel, Gort, this Sunday with a host of talented young musicians to perform two concerts.
The 2011 festival has been expanded to include intermediate level players. There will be performances from the Laois School of Music Orpheus Orchestra, Galway Junior and Intermediate Youth Orchestras, Athenry Music School Junior and Senior Orchestras, Clare Music Makers Intermediate String Ensemble, and Gort’s Coole Music Junior and Youth Orchestras.
An addition to this year’s event will be traditional musicians represented by the Kinvara Young Musicians under the direction of Maire O’Keefe and the East Clare Young Musicians under the direction of Mary MacNamara.
More than 300 young people will participate in the festival and in addition to performing with their own orchestras, each musician will join in a gigantic festival orchestra for the performance of the finale.
This year’s finale pieces, ‘Sky Lantern’ and ‘For Good’ commissioned especially by the festival committee, were composed by Katharina Baker, director of Coole Music.
