Gael Scoil Dara gets site for new school

Gael Scoil Dara in Renmore has been offered a site in Renmore that will allow it to construct a purpose built national Gael school - something that has been mooted for the last 25 years.

The Department of Education made the offer to the school this week which has now been accepted for the school. However as far back as 1984, the school’s board of management made representations to the Department of Education to secure a new site for a purpose built new school.

This site is located opposite the GMIT, and accessed off the Ballyloughaun Road. It will facilitate the construction of a 16 classroom school, allowing for expansion of the current enrolment of some 285 children.

The news has been welcomed by Fianna Fáil Cllr Mary Leahy who said it is “a major step forward to locate Gael Scoil Dara onto a permanent location”.

“This news has been received as very welcome news to parents in a climate of otherwise doom, gloom and generally negative news with regard to education,” she said. “This school is expected to be included in the next allocation of funding or bundle which is due to be announced in the coming months.”
