Claregalway woman to ride at the Cheltenham Festival

A 28-years-old Claregalway women has been selected to compete alongside 11 riders in the Cheltenham St Patrick’s Day Charity Derby in aid of Cancer Research.

Niamh Flynn will compete in a special flat race over one mile and five furlongs at the Cheltenham festival.

Although Flynn is involved in horse racing, working for Tattersalls Ireland in Co Meath and having previously worked for Derby winning trainer John Oxx, this will be her first trip to Cheltenham.

“Getting to ride around Cheltenham is a dream come true. Not many people can say they have ridden up the famous Cheltenham Hill,” says Flynn.

“I am currently riding out for Meath trainer Gordon Elliott and from time to time I ride out for local Galway trainer Martin Cullinane.”

The race involves 12 men and women representing both Ireland and the UK.. Flynn is required to raise a minimum of £5,000 sponsorship for Cancer Research.
