Corinthians continue their chase for a top four promotion place in the Ulster Bank League division two when they host Terenure on Saturday at Cloonacauneed (5pm ).
With only one point between the two sides, there is much at stake, but Corinthians, with home advantage, should have the edge. They will have been disappointed last week to miss a good opportunity to grab all the points on offer, being forced to a 29 - 29 draw with Old Wesley.
It was a frustrating result particularly as Corinthians had started brightly, and had taken a 26 - 0 lead after 27 minutes. Centre Cian Begley struck early for a try when blocking down an attempted clearance under pressure from Wesley outhalf Mark Geraghty. Fullback Shane Mullally converted, and from the restart outhalf Conor Murphy gained possession and kicked a high ball down the touch line which winger Darren Classen secured before crossing the whitewash. Mullally again converted for a 14 - 0 lead after 15 minutes.
With Wesley shellshocked, Corinthians capitalised, and it was not long before centre Wayne Williams touched down for the third try after scrumhalf Mark Dolan took a quick tap penalty. The influential Conor Murphy was instrumental in Corinthians' fourth try, supplying u-20 player Angus O Connell who crossed to secure the bonus point for a 26 - 0 lead.
Corinthians, however, took the foot off the pedal, and thereafter Old Wesley took control, scoring a try and penalty before the break to reduce the deficit to 29 - 0. They continued to dominate, and despite losing two players to the sinbin, they ran in two tries through their rampant pack to come within seven points with only minutes remaining. The final try for Wesley came after the home side failed to clear their lines, and winger Alan Large collected and broke through the Corinthian cover to score the bonus point, with the conversion giving them a share of the spoils.
