Following their facile win over Wexford last Sunday in Pearse Stadium, the Galway hurlers face Offaly in O’Connor Park in Tullamore at 1pm this Sunday.
Joe Dooley’s side put up a good showing in Páirc Uí Chaoimh last weekend and only went down to the Rebels on a score-line of 1-20 to 1-15.
The Offaly manager has stated his ambition is to try to win enough games to survive in the division and, in order to do that, he will be targeting victories in his home games.
Brian Carroll excelled at wing-forward against Cork and hit 0-5 from play and Shane Dooley was the other main scorer with 0-6 (five frees ) and he lined out at right-corner forward. Team captain Joe Bergin was also impressive at centre-forward.
John McIntyre will probably be pleased to see his team get a tough game of it from the Offaly men as he cannot have learnt too much from the 21-point victory over a hapless Wexford.
It is difficult to analyse a game that finishes on a scoreline of 1-24 to 0-6. That said, there are two points in the bag and debutant Ger O’Halloran impressed at corner back. Tony Óg Regan looked solid at six and Donal Barry notched three fine points from midfield and hit a lot of ball.
Up front Andy Smith looked lively on his introduction and Ger Farragher helped himself to 0-11 (0-7fs, 0-3 65s ), while Aonghus Callanan worked hard and ended with 1-02 to his name.
