Equipment worth €35,000 stolen in city mobile services store burglary

A mobile phone and computer repair store was completely “cleaned out” by four suspects during a night-time burglary in which they made off with equipment valued at €35,000.

A major investigation has now been launched by local gardai who are appealing for witness to come forward.

According to a spokesperson for Galway Garda Station a burglary took place at Mobile Phone Services, which is also a computer and laptop repair service centre, located at 40 William Street, Galway. Between 11.30pm on February 10 and 3.30am on February 11 the back door of the premises was broken through and the culprits made off with various equipment totalling €35,000.

“Sixteen laptops and 250 phones were taken. It was cleaned out,” said a Garda spokesperson who confirmed that a serious investigation has been launched.

It is believed that four suspects were involved in the incident. The CCTV footage showed the suspects wearing dark clothes and they had their faces covered.

Anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident and who may have noticed suspicious activity is asked to contact Galway Garda Station on 091 538000.

Meanwhile, an investigation is continuing into a robbery at Dolan’s Petrol Station at Kilgarve, Ballinasloe, on February 10 last. Gardai are particularly interested in find a navy soft top BMW 645 convertible which was involved in the incident which occurred at 5.10am. A number of armed and masked males entered the premises and proceeded to threaten staff and customers. They then made their escape with an amount of cash and drove off in the BMW 645 in the direction of the old Dublin Road.

According to gardai there are very few cars of this make and model in Ireland at present and the car could be parked in a car park in an urban area or indeed abandoned in a country lane. Anyone with information can contact Ballinasloe Garda Station on 090 9631893.
