Bail for car theft and dangerous driving accused

A 23-year-old Ballybrit man charged with a string of offences including alleged unauthorised taking of a vehicle, dangerous driving, drink driving, and possession of a knife, has been remanded on continuing bail.

Alan Farragher with an address at 6 Ballybrit Court, Ballybrit, appeared before Galway District Court charged with possession of a knife, dangerous driving, using a mechanically propelled vehicle without consent, drink driving, driving without insurance, and failure to produce a driving licence, at Doughiska Road on January 22, 2011.

Giving evidence of arrest, charge and caution Garda Padraig Healy told the court that Farragher had been arrested and charged with two offences before being released on station bail. He was then further charged with four more offences on the morning of the court sitting. Garda Healy added that there would be no objection to bail.

Inspector Sean Glynn then made an application for the bail to be extended to the new charge sheets. He added that the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to the matter being dealt with summarily in the District Court.

Judge Mary Fahy then remanded Farragher on continuing bail to appear again at Galway District Court on April 11, 2011. She also granted legal aid.
