Galwegians contest Dáil seats in Dublin and Kildare

Galwegians contesting the General Election are not just standing in Galway. At least six people from the county will be running in constituencies outside their native county.

Two County Galway natives will be fighting for seats in Dublin North Central - Independent TD Finian McGrath, who is originally from Tuam and Fine Gael’s Naoise Ó Muiri, who comes from An Spidéal.

Another Galway v Galway battle will take place in Dún Laoghaire, where Labour leader Eamon Gilmore, originally from Ahascragh, and Fine Gael’s Mary Mitchell-O’Connor, originally from Milltown, are both standing.

Other Galwegians running for the Dáil include Ballinasloe’s Sean Kenny, who is standing for Labour in Dublin North East, and Fianna Fáil’s Áine Kitt-Brady in Kildare North. Ms Kitt-Brady is originally from Caltra and is the sister of Fianna Fáil Galway East candidate Michael Kitt.
