Athenry singer and actress Marilyn Bane will be hoping to represent Ireland at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, as part of the pop group Bling.
The 2011 Eurovision Song Contest takes place in Düsseldorf in May, but before the big event, the question of who can represent Ireland will be settled tomorrow night at The Eurosong Competition.
Taking part will be Bling, choral singers The Vard Sisters, singer Nikki Kavanagh, singer-songwriter Don Mescal, and the phenomenon that is Jedward. The selected acts will perform live versions of their Eurovision entries at a special edition of The Late Late Show. The winner will be chosen by a combination of jury and televoting. The televoting will be open to the public.
On the night, Bling - Marilyn Bane, Tammy Browne, Shane Creevey, and Gari Deegan - will perform the song ‘Shine On’.
Marilyn is no stranger to singing, stage, or screen, and has performed in numerous musicals including Guys and Dolls and Me & My Girl. She also won an AIMS Award in 2006 when she was only 18. She has performed in rock and blues bands in Co Galway and writes her own material.
In 2006, Marilyn was one of the finalists in You’re A Star on RTÉ Television where she turned in an energetic and well received version of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Rock’n’Roll’. The following year, the Athenry native relocated to Dublin where she joined the Gaiety School of Acting. She has since starred in City Of Mirrors in the Smock Alley theatre in Dublin, and recently landed the lead role in the short film, Girls.
