Free the Castlebar One says independent candidate Canney

Enda Kenny has been kept in captivity by Fine Gael for too long and it is time the party gave him his freedom in order to fight the General Election.

This is the view of Independent Galway East candidate councillor Sean Canney who has taken a humorous swipe at FG over the absence of its leader from the airwaves and debates as the State heads towards the General Election.

“Ireland has been a critic of repressive regimes in other countries who keep their political leaders locked up and all politicians should now unite in a campaign to secure the freedom of Kenny,” he said.

Cllr Canney said Fine Gael seemed intent on becoming the first political party in Ireland to fight a general election campaign with a “non playing captain”.

“The ‘Dublin 4 cappuccino set’ who now effectively seem to be leading Fine Gael, should leave the concept of a non playing captain on the golf course and let Kenny out of the bunker,” he said.

“Political leaders who fail in leading and are sidelined are generally referred to as ‘lame duck’ leaders, but Fine Gael is bestowing the title of ‘lame duck’ on Mr Kenny even before he has a chance of becoming leader of the country.”
