Labour’s Galway West candidate, councillor Derek Nolan, will formally kick off his general election campaign tomorrow at 8pm in the Menlo Park Hotel.
Cllr Nolan was selected by the Labour Party to contest the election last November, after Michael D Higgins announced he would not be standing.
“We have a significant task to keep the Labour seat in Galway,” he said. “Michael D built it up tirelessly over a 40 year period. I know that if we show people that Labour will implement real change, we will succeed in keeping the seat.”
The campaign will be formally launched by Dep Higgins and Cllr Nolan promises that it will be “a very informal affair with live music and food, and so on”.
The event is open to supporters and well-wishers from the public.
