Further remand for men charged with gang drug dealing offences

Two men charged with allegedly dealing drugs with the intention of enhancing the ability of a criminal organisation have been further remanded on continuing bail for the service of a book of evidence.

Inspector Mick Coppinger told the Galway District Court on Monday that the Director of Public Prosecutions has directed trial by indictment in the case against the two accused men.

Paul Black (29 ) with an address at 48 Corruch Bui, Rahoon, and Mark Dowling (21 ) with an address at 58 Castlepark, Ballybane, are both charged with committing a serious offence, namely the possession of cannabis with intent to supply while knowing that a criminal organisation existed and with the purpose of enhancing the ability of that organisation in the district of Galway between July 22, 2009, and June 1, 2010, contrary to Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006.

The men were arrested in connection with the ‘Operation Foolscap’ crackdown on organised crime in the west.

Judge Mary Fahy remanded both men on continuing bail to May 4, 2011, for the service of the book of evidence.
