Almost €25 million in funds is to be invested in Galway’s regional and local road network this year.
More than €20 million will be given to the Galway County Council while the Galway City Council will get more than €4 million.
Some of the projects which will benefit from this funding are the completion of works on the Seamus Quirke Road, and pedestrian crossings on Shantalla and Clybaun roads.
A discretionary block grant of €1.6m is also being provided to the city council to provide a footpath on a section of the Ballymoneen Road Upper and for the proposed widening of Circular Road.
Included in the allocation is €40, 000 for the county council to carry out safety improvement works at Cregmore Crossroads.
The funds have been welcomed by Fianna Fáil Galway West candidate Frank Fahey. He said: “The funding will enable vital road projects to be completed, as well as improving safety on many of our regional and local roads.”
