Landlord’ is a word with grim associations in Ireland and both the native Irish and British politicians in the 19th century viewed them as a major problem.
Landlords were associated with exploitation, rack-rents, absenteeism, evictions, and the grim reminder that the Irish had no control over their own affairs or even the land on whcih they worked.
The phenomenon of the landlord will be examined in a public lecture entitled Landlordism which will be given by Joseph Murphy in the Oranmore Lodge Hotel at 8.15pm next Wednesday. The meeting is being organised by The Western Family History Association and it will be followed by the associations AGM.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
