•Salthill Devon are preparing for the new season, and as part of their build up the club will play their first pre-season friendly on Satyurday (3pm ) with the EA Sports Cup and FAI Ford Cup 2010 champions Sligo Rovers Football Club. The match will be played at Drom and the FAI Senior Cup will be on display. Entry to the match is free.

•The Galway Gaelic Football u-14 ladies management team is holding a trial game this Saturday in Ardrahan at 11.30am, all under 14 girls are welcome. For more details contact Kathy Keady 086 8492228.

•Salthill-Knocknacarra GAA club will host its annual club social on Saturday at The Ardilaun Hotel, Salthill at 6.30pm. This year the city club will honour its junior A and junior B 2010 County and West Board football title winners, and its junior A County League camogie champions, all of whom will be presented with their medals on the night. Former Salthill-Knocknacarra and Galway football star Niall Finnegan will be this year’s guest of honour. Finnegan, All Ireland medal winner with Galway in 1998, had been a stalwart for Salthill-Knocknacarra and later his adopted club, Dublin’s St Sylvester’s.

• The Galway City School of Judo enjoyed success at the recent Irish Judo Association All-Ireland Judo Championship held in Killarney. Daniel Leporda (41kgs ) claimed gold to hold his 2010 number 1 ranked position. Mark OConnor (28kgs ) was the silver medalist to keep his top ranked position, while Fiachra O'Roarke (37kgs ) also claimed silver and is currently ranked number 3 in the cadets section. Other medal winners were Niamh O'Toole (27kgs ) silver; Patrick Doyle (45kgs ) and Eoin O'Toole (34kgs ), bronze; and Dimitri Grecu (100kgs ) silaver and No 2. Chris Hickey, chief instructor, won the gold in the master category to retain the No 1 ranking.
