DARING, PROVOCATIVE, thought-provoking, and brilliantly funny, Abie Philbin Bowman is one of the most intelligent and gifted young Irish comedians to emerge in the last few years.
This weekend, Abie (son of the broadcaster John Bowman ) will perform two of his acclaimed and politically charged shows, upstairs in the Róisín Dubh.
On Friday February 11 at 8.30, Abie will perform Sex Lies & the KKK. The show was inspired by radio interview Abie conducted with a member of the Ku Klux Klan on the night Barack Obama was elected US president. This inspired a show which ponders on the nature of prejudice, sexuality, and discrimination.
On Saturday February 12 at 8.30 Abie will perform Eco Friendly Jihad. In this show he asks if we could reduce carbon emissions by joining Al Qaeda. Who else can save the planet from airlines, American consumerism and overpopulation? Bizarrely, since Abie started touring Eco-Friendly Jihad, Osama bin Laden has released two audiotapes blaming the USA for climate change.
Time Out has called Abie’s comedy “way beyond superficial satire...Absorbing, intricately woven, challenging and highly entertaining.”
