Cubs - Galway’s avant garde release new album

CUBS - A kind of Irish avant garde supergroup - will release their debut album, The Whispering Woods, tomorrow on Rusted Rail and Deadslackstring.

Cubs is a new recording project, featuring members of Phantom Dog Beneath The Moon, United Bible Studies, C Joynes, Plinth, Agitated Radio Pilot, and Yawning Chasm, most of whom are Galway based.

Eleven musicians - David Colohan, Aaron Coyne, Kevin Flanagan, Aaron Hurley, Chris Joynes, Vicky Langan, Scott McLaughlin, Paul O’Reilly, James Rider, Michael Tanner, and Keith Wallace - took part in the songwriting and recording and the result is 13 original songs.

Recordings took place in Galway, Dublin, Belfast, England, and The Gambia in West Africa. Some musicians contributed to tracks after hearing them, recording their contributions separately, which were then added later.

The album features improvisational music, psych-folk, late night lysergic lullabies, electro-acoustica, and cosmic music. The album is housed in a beautiful hand-assembled sleeve.

If you want to get a sneak preview of what the album is like then go to www.youtube.com/watch?v=97ScJfa0vJU to see the video for The Whispering Woods track ‘Blackberry Lane’ (written by Galway singer-songwriter Aaron Coyne ). The video was made in Galway by tinyEPICs.
