The Crane Bar may be up for sale but the current tenants, Mick Crehan and Maeve Joyce, will be staying, regardless of who the new owner will eventually be.
CB Richard Ellis and joint agents Mullery auctioneers have confirmed their instructions to offer for sale a number of commercial properties in Clifden and Galway, including the Rock Glen Hotel, J Conneely’s Bar, and the D’Arcy Inn, in Clifden; as well as The Crane Bar, Sea Road, Galway.
The properties are being offered for sale on behalf of Paul McCann of Grant Thornton, acting as receiver/manager. The Crane Bar is expected to achieve in the region of €900,000 to €950,000.
The Crane is Galway’s leading venue for folk, trad, and roots music, singer-songwriter gigs, and trad sessions, and news that the premises was to be sold would have been of concern to music fans and musicians in the city.
However Mr Crehan and Ms Joyce have a “secure tenancy” and a long term lease for another 15 years and will be continuing to operate the bar and live music venue, regardless of who takes over the building.
“The music will go on as normal,” Mr Crehan told the Galway Advertiser. “We’ll be staying and we have plenty of good shows coming up over the next month.”
Paddy Keenan and Tommy Sullivan play on February 2; Scottish singer-songwriter Dick Gaughan plays on February 10; Martín O’Connor, Cathal Hayden, and Seamie O’Dowd play February 16; Freddie White is on February 17; while Brian Rooney, John Carty, and Brian McGrath play on February 25.
