Galway to go tango loco this weekend

THE SEXY and sensual Argentinean dance style of tango is coming to Galway as the city will host the second All Ireland Argentine Tango Festival this weekend.

The festival takes place tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday and it is the second time it has been hosted in Galway, with last year’s event attracting some 200 dancers from Ireland, Italy, Australia, Argentina, Spain, Britain, France, and the US.

Tango dancing has experienced a boom in Ireland for the past 10 years and Galway has been at the forefront in this boom. This has been largely due to the local presence of an international tango couple, Marion Krauthaker and Enrique Ringa, who have chosen Galway as their home for the past five years.

This weekend’s tango festival is an opportunity for anybody who wants to see or experience this dance and join in with Galway’s tango dance community.

As well as dance classes there will be a tango photography workshop, a special class for DJs as well as tai chi and yoga classes offered free to participants, and the general public. The festival will culminate in a magnificent tango ball on Saturday night in the Ballyvaughan suite of the Galway Bay Hotel from 9pm. An inaugural speech and tango performances will be given at around 10.30pm.

The general public are welcome to attend the ball (the entrance for non dancers is €5 ), and to watch or try classes. For tickets or information contact Marion on 086 - 1541703 or see www.caminosdetango.com and www.invasiontangofestival.eu
