Flower power

Spring/summer fashions are full of bright, cheery colours aimed at lifting our moods and conveying a spirit of confidence for the New Year.

Littlewoods Ireland, the online department store’s new collection, features a number of prominent looks including florals and stripes, lace, fringing and pleats.

It is a riot of colour with vibrant block colours of cobalt blue, purple, pink, sunray yellow, fuchsia and tangerine all featuring heavily. Prints like soft garden florals and 3D digitally enhanced florals play a big role in the new season. It encourages mixing colours and patterns - clash it, sweep it head-to-toe or block it, anything goes.

A relaxed and minimalist urban summer look is a key trend featuring sleeveless tops and jackets, tunics, shift dresses and various lengths and takes on the traditional trousers.

Studio 54 inspired sophisticated disco glamour and a return to the influences of the 1970s play an important role for the new season including Hippy & Tribal Boho, Pastoral Romance and Punk.

Bright whites, crisp white cottons and looks of white on white dominate - it’s a season for brides. Desert shades, an extension of the colour of last season - camel - are prominent for spring/summer as are tone-on-tone safari-inspired tan, coffee, honey, sand and 70s brown.

As we head into spring and the days are getting longer so too are skirt lengths - the trend on all the catwalks is BTK - Below The Knee. Littlewoods Ireland has skirts for all tastes and budgets including billowy full skirts, parachute silks and skirt trains.

The much-loved maxi makes it through to another season with various takes on the straightforward maxi from Cuban Frill to Glam to West Coast Boho; wear your maxi with hoop earrings for a casually stylish look.

Trousers are out in force with crop varieties featuring turn-ups or straight legs cut above the ankle, a key investment piece for your new wardrobe. High waists with a 70s touch are a key look as well as palazzo pants and carpenter trousers, similar in style to the easy-to-wear boyfriend jeans with slouchy low waists.

It’s a season to “get shirty” with looks inspired from the classic men’s shirt getting a feminine twist.

The ever-enduring trenchcoat is back with a structured fitted design, flattering for any figure. This is a statement piece for any wardrobe. Wear over a shirt and straight leg trousers or to recreate the catwalk look wear it with wedge sandals and the season’s new must-have “mini-me” bag - a smaller version of the bigger bag, and stacked bangles with dangly earrings.

Metallics will shine on for another season, not just silver and gold but bronze and copper with many pieces featuring embellishments and metallic detailing.

The exciting new collection is all about mixing key trends with striking accessories, such as belts, corsages, hats, bold jewellery and statement-piece necklaces with a 70s feel.
