THEY HAVE played Glastonbury, they have a fan in Sharon Shannon, and The Waterboy’s Steve Wickham is among their members. They are NoCrows.
Sligo based folk-rock band NoCrows will play Monroe’s Live on Saturday January 22 at 10pm as part of their current Irish tour.
The band - Steve Wickham (violin, vocals ), Anna Houston (cello, mandolin ), Felip Carbonell (guitar, vocals ), Eddie Lee (double bass ) - plays a mix of Irish trad, gypsy, classical, and World music.
Steve Wickham is an integral part of The Waterboys and is well known to Galway audiences; Felip Carbonell is originally from Mallorca; Anna Houston is also a member of the Sligo Baroque Orchestra; while Eddie Lee was once a member of Irish 1980s pop band Those Nervous Animals (remember ‘My Friend John’? ).
The band have released three albums - Live at the Strand (2007 ), of which The Irish Times said “swing rarely felt this good”; Magpie (2008 ), and NoCrows on the Moon (2010 ), which featured contributions from Sharon Shannon and Mike Scott.
“We have been mixing genres for a few years now,” says Eddie Lee, “and NoCrows on the Moon is a logical progression, involving more original material and some of the many musicians that have influenced us in our lifelong musical journey.”
NoCrows have been making great waves in the European folk and world music circuit playing Glastonbury, Dranouter and Labadoux (Belgium ), and San Sebastiá (Mallorca ).
