Healy Eames welcomes support for second-level Claregalway school

Fine Gael Seanad spokesperson on education, Senator Fidelma Healy Eames has welcomed the referral of her proposal for a new second-level school in Claregalway by the Oireachtas Education Committee to the Minister for Education Mary Coughlan.

“This referral by the committee is the next vital step in securing a new second-level school for the children and parents of Claregalway. Working with the local committee, the proposal was initiated by myself and seconded by Deputy Paul Gogarty.

“I made the case for the new school on the basis of the pressing need for school places in the Claregalway area and on the east side of Galway city. To date, Claregalway children have had no dedicated second-level school and have relied on places in Tuam, Athenry, Galway city, and Oranmore, the latter three now bursting at the seams with demand.

“I am happy to support the stellar work of the local committee, which is steered by Paddy Tobin and others, to advance the cause and help deliver a new second-level school for Claregalway and the surrounding area,” she said.
