A proposed ferry link between the Burren in Co Clare and Galway city could be in operation by early next year cutting journey times for commuters down to just 30 minutes.
According to reports, tenders for a feasibility study to assess the viability of the ‘Ballyvaughan Bay Hop’ ferry are being sought by a company based in Clare.
The aim of the project will be to create a passenger service to Galway city from Ballyvaughan where tourism is seasonal and employment opportunies scarce. Due to the congestion of the road network to Galway city it can take up to two hours during rush hour for commuters to get to their desks. It is hoped that the journey time could be reduced to just 30 minutes if the 12-seater ferry service goes ahead
