Time to learn to play that guitar

Have you made a musical New Year’s Resolution? Have you promised yourself to finally learn how to play that guitar? Don’t worry, help is at hand! Guitar Made Easy is the fast, fun and easy way to learn to play guitar, and classes are coming to a venue near you soon.

Guitar Made Easy classes run every January, April and September in venues in Oranmore, Galway, Tuam and Castlebar. It’s designed for complete beginners with no prior knowledge of music. Course tutor Kevin McNicholas, says “It’s learning to play music for the sheer fun of it. You don’t have to learn to read music, and there are no exams at the end. I regard playing music as a skill, not a talent, so anyone can learn.”

If your nearest and dearest has been threatening for years now to dust off that guitar and finally learn to play, perhaps it’s time you took matters into your own hands, and booked them into classes?

And don’t be put off just because you don’t own a guitar. “Ask around!” says Mr McNicholas. “There are dozens of guitars out there not being used at the moment, so inquire among family, friends, or neighbours until you find one you can borrow for the first couple of months.”

But surely there are those amongst us who will never manage to learn to play guitar? According to Kevin, “Such people do exist. I’ve met both of them! There’s an old saying, “If you can walk, you can dance, if you can talk, you can sing” To that, I’ve added, “If you can practise, you can play.”

January 2011 classes begin in Oranmore Monday 10, Galway Tuesday 11, Tuam Wednesday 12 and Castlebar Thursday 13. Beginners classes are at 7.00 and 8.15 pm and improvers classes are at 9.30pm. Further details are available from Kevin at 093-36724 or at www.guitar-made-easy.com
