The Galway footballers will have three captains for the coming season.
Salthill’s Finian Hanley, Corofin’s Kieran Fitzgerald, and last year’s captain, Michael Meehan will share the role this year.
Team selector Sean Óg De Paor explained that the rather unusual decision was taken to underline the team ethic they are hoping to foster it the coming months.
"We have named three captains for the year, and our thinking is very team-orientated. We want to foster leadership within the panel and get away from the idea that leadership is just down to any one player.
“We will have to have many leaders and captains by the end of the year if we are going to be successful and the view we are taking is that it is about the entire group taking on leadership roles in the panel, not just particular individuals,” he said.
