Three Galway groups are among the recipients of funding announced under the Seniors Alert Scheme.

Minister for Community, Equality, and Gaeltacht Affairs Pat Carey has announced grants totalling €106,000 under the scheme, which will see 41 community and voluntary groups receive small grants towards the cost of home and personal security devices. In conjunction with the previous Scheme of Community Support for Older People, over €1.947m has been approved under the schemes this year, with 445 groups receiving funds.

The Galway groups to benefit from the latest round of funding are Gort Neighbourhood Watch (€909.50 ), Menlough Community Alert (€277.50 ), and St Vincent de Paul, Tuam (€350 ).

“I am delighted to say that this will bring to 6,306 the number of older people benefiting from the grant schemes this year,” Minister Carey said of the funding. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank local organisations in promoting and fostering community activity at a local level. I would ask them to continue to look after the older people in their communities by visiting them frequently, especially during periods of inclement weather.”
