Former PD leader Senator Ciaran Cannon has been added to the Fine Gael ticket to contest the General Election in the Galway East constituency.
He joins Councillors Paul Connaughton Jnr and Jimmy McClearn on the Fine Gael ticket.
Fine Gael National Director of Elections, Phil Hogan TD, said: ‘The Party’s Executive Council believes Fine Gael has put in place an excellent team to contest the General Election in Galway East. We are confident of success’.
Cannon secured just 20 votes in the recent FG convention, but it is believed that he had an agreement with FG chiefs that he would be placed on the ticket anyway.
