Local school takes action over major funding issues

The board of management of Eglish National School is taking action after it was passed over for funding by the Government.

The school, which has no central heating, cracked walls, and a roof in a hazardous condition, has been passed over by the Irish Government and denied any funding. Windows are nailed shut and rabbit wire is fitted onto the inside of the windows to keep them up right and prevent them falling in on students. Several children have suffered from asthma attacks and hive outbreaks due to the terrible ventilation.

Education Minister Batt O’Keeffe granted €20,000 for emergency repair work which was carried out over the summer months but principal Liz Mulry says the school is in such a terrible condition that a new school building is needed, not more repairs.
