THE IRISH Times music column On The Record holds its Christmas Party at Strange Brew in the Róisín Dubh tonight from 8pm.
Headlining will be Daithí Ó Dronaí, the immensely talented traditional fiddle player. The County Clare musician combines his fiddle playing with a recording loop station to enable him to perform solo with no pre-recorded tracks.
Daithí creates looped sounds like tapping his violin as a drumbeat and even his Nintendo DS to help create music. He also appeared on the finals of Must Be The Music.
Support comes Cork indie-pop band Hoorary For Humans. Also on the bill are Cloud Castle Lake and Squarehead. Gugai and The Irish Times’ Jim Carroll will be DJing afterwards.
Admission is free.
