“An Aladdin’s cave for the hair and beauty professional,” is how John Donnellan, the managing director of Flair Hair and Beauty Supplies, describes his four stores and the company’s re-launched website www.flair.ie and it is very hard to disagree with that assessment.
As might be expected for one of the country’s leading hair and beauty products distribution companies, huge attention is paid to roots and in the case of Flair Hair and Beauty Supplies those roots are as Galway as the Claddagh. The company was effectively founded in 1974 by John’s father, Galway man Patrick Donnellan, when he opened his first cash-and-carry outlet for hair professionals in Dublin in 1974. Two brilliantly successful years after that, in 1976, Flair began trading and quickly established itself as the country’s market leader in the sale and marketing of hair, beauty, nails, and spa products to Ireland’s hair and beauty professionals. It did not achieve that kind of longevity by getting carried away with fads or hype, this is a company that is in it for the long haul and knows its market to a depth and degree that is, quite frankly, without comparison.
John has been the driving force behind the company in recent years, and in 2000 he opened the second store in Sean Mulvoy Road, Galway. Flair Hair and Beauty markets some 13,000 professional hair and beauty products at very competitive prices. “Our commitment to quality big brands at lowest prices save our customers a nice little bundle in these times when that really matters,” said John Donnellan.
Flair has grown from just three to 60 employees and operates four stores with two in Dublin, one in Naas, and one in Galway, the home place of Flair founder Patrick Donnellan. In addition Flair’s new distribution centre in Naas, Co Kildare, services its mail order and website customers.
Patrick is very proud of his Galway roots and character and it is no coincidence that Flair opened a superb store here on Sean Mulvoy Road, between Bohermore and Terryland. “There’s a dynamism and energy in Galway that we feel is very much part of the Flair ethos; it motivated our dad and drove him and it still moves this company forward,” he said. The store is open six days per week to trade buyers and everything necessary for the committed professional is there.

Flair is an Irish run and owned family business that has prospered for 35 years through offering service, commitment, value, and support to its colleagues in the salon end of the sector. Flair, from the very first day it went into business, has committed itself to the support and encouragement of stylists and professional standards. “We think the professionals know that they can rely on us and that’s why, 35 brilliant years later, we’re operating successfully and growing and looking to the future with optimism and renewed energy. And that’s why we can make the kind of investment in ourselves, and in our colleagues in the salons and spas throughout the country, that’s demonstrated so vividly for example in www.flair.ie “We’re going forward together and we’ll grow together for another 35 years. All I’ll say to our friends, relations and customers in Galway is this: call out to Flair on the Sean Mulvoy Road and welcome to the future of trade purchasing in the hair, beauty, and health sectors. Welcome to savings and value. Welcome to another Galway success story. Welcome to Flair.”
