Galway’s Cianna Ni Churraoin, pictured right, scooped the coveted Young Female Player of the Year at the annual gala Handball All-Star Awards.
Frist-time nominee Ni Churraoin was rewarded for her remarkable achievements this year which included winning both the 40x20 and 60x30 u-14 singles titles, as well as a US girls 15 and under title and two provincial team crowns.
The Galway youngster was one of five Galway and Connaught nominees who picked up a national accolade.
Abbeyknockmoy handball official John Williams was recognised for his lengthy service to the game when presented with the Hall of Fame Award.
Ballaghaderreen’s senior club team won Team of the Year, while Aidan Bell from Claremorris was acknowledged in the Special Achievement category. St Coman’s Roscommon won Club of the Year.
There was some disappointment, however, as Limerick’s Seamus O’Carroll pipped Moycullen’s Martin Mulkerrins for the Youth Male Player of the Year.
Connaught junior club champions Salthill make the trip to Tulla in Clare this Saturday to take on Leinster champions Crinkle of Offaly in the All-Ireland semi-final.
