SO COW might not be the biggest name in Irish music, but to hard core indie fans across the globe he is something special.
So Cow is based around Tuam singer-songwriter Brian Kelly, who writes quirky, catchy guitar driven, indie-pop that has seen him play the prestigious Primavera Sound music festival in Barcelona and receive critical praise from Pitchfork.
This year has been a good one for the Tuam man and his cohorts Jonny White (bass ) and Peter O’Shea (drums ), as So Cow’s second album Meaningless Friendly has received an American release on Chicago’s Tic Tac Totally Records.
Many tracks, such as ‘Shut Eye’ and ‘Start Over’ have received a considerable amount of airplay on US College radio, which goes some way to explaining the five or so months the band have spent across the Atlantic this year. In fact, 2010 has seen them play near 150 shows in support of the album.
So if you are new or a complete novice to the So Cow phenomenon then get yourself along to the upstairs live venue at Kelly’s Bar this Saturday at 8.30pm to see what it’s all about. If you already know So Cow, you will be heading there anyway.
